The company i decided to advertise for my Viral Advert was Hard Rock Cafe. the advert is about an asteroid that is flying through space and then crashes into the earth and reveals the Hard Rock Cafe logo.
to achieve this i used green screen footage of an asteroid flying through space, to get rid of the green i used the after effects plug-in Key-Light which allows you to use a pipet tool to click on the green which replaces it with the background alpha channel, to make sure the green was completely gone i switched to the screen matte view which shows the image in black and white, you can then use the screen matte clip white and black tool to increase the amount of white in the asteroid image until they are completely black and white. this then allowed me to place a JPEG image of space behind the asteroid after switching back to the final result in the view.
I repeated the steps for the next green screen where the asteroid crashes into the earth. I then added the Hard Rock Café logo and key-framed the opacity at the start of the image to midway through to create a fade in effect. after this I added the composition to the render queue and exported it.

Advertising Analysis Essay
the Advert i have chosen to analyse in depth is the new Haribo advert https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9scm3NCIH_E, the advert genre is comedy as the basic concept for the advert is to attach children's voices to adults in some sort of business conference meeting, talking about the individual sweets, this is an obvious juxtaposition of kids voices in adults which could mean that the message is, Haribo is aimed at a wider audience compared to Haribo's earlier advertisements where children are in charge of the business and has a much more "childish" feel to it. Haribo aims for a target audience ranging from 4 - 11 year olds, However they are open to a broader audience.
The video itself uses basic shots as the adverts intention is more comical than visual, so shots like over the shoulder, close-up and mid shots are frequent throughout the video. the advert does not use any visual effects compositions and consists only of visual elements shot from a camera, however at the end of the video the haribo bag is shown along with the famous haribo bear which do not function in any animation but are zoomed-in on. the target audience will also find the advert especially funny as they find adults speaking like a child strange as the adults are speaking like someone their age, but also adults will find it funny as people in a situation such as the people in the advert generally do not speak in that tone or way.
in older advertisements for a short time a theory was used called the hypodermic needle, which means that specific media information is "injected" into the brain via small frames shown in a second, this theory also meant that we are all the same in terms of response and consuming information. in the haribo advert they do not use the theory as it is illegal, however small persuasion techniques are used in the advert to get their target audience to tell their parents or whomever to buy the product like using close-ups of people eating the sweets or contrasting bright colours with the more dull looking colours, the sweets that they show are also the most popular sweets the audiences go for like the fried eggs, gummy bears and the rings.

Storyboard For My Viral Advert
this is the basic storyboard for my viral advert, the video is about a falling asteroid from space and landing on a field where it digs up some dirt and reveals the Hard Rock Cafe engraved in the mud.
to achieve this i will be using an animated asteroid on a green screen which will be rotating through a jpeg image of space, to get rid of the green screen i will use the key-light plug-in on after effects with the pipet tool to click on the green which will eliminate the green background and replace with the alpha channel which is transparent. then adding the space jpeg layer under the asteroid layer to finish.

Rationale for my Ident
The ident i have decided to create is the fourth and final idea of mine. the entirety of the ident is in time-lapse, the camera moves slowly to the right to reveal a wall which further shows the production name fading in which looks like its attached to the wall. I found this idea my best, purely because i think it will be easy to execute without it being to challenging. however i feel it won't undermine my knowledge in after effects but serve as a simple but professional ident. This ident will also hone my skills in the motion tracking and 3D elements side of after effects as this ident will rely heavily on 3D elements particularly with motion tracking the footage which would allow me to attach the text layer to a specific part of the footage, also up to this point I've worked mostly with 2D elements. This ident will also help me further my knowledge in the RGB and alpha channels when I colour grade the footage in colour fineness or speed grade.
Ident Ideas and Mind Map
This is the first idea for my ident. this idea would be difficult to execute as i would have to have a close up shot of someone spinning a gun whilst catching it in almost the same place. the visual effects side would be relatively straight forward as i would have to colour grade the footage using the RGB channels, either through the Adobe After Effects plug-in Colour Finesse or Adobe Speed Grade. after
this i would zoom in to the barrel of the gun and then add text onto the barrel the text will be a 3D element of the ident as it will wrap around the cylinder shape instead of being a flat 2D image.
this is my second idea which again would be difficult to execute as i would need real footage of someone mopping the floor. to achieve this ident i would film the footage, colour grade it and then in After Effects i would add the text to the water which will be a 2D element. however if i motion tracked the footage and attached the text to the water it would make the text look 3D. i would then add a slide fade to the text and keyframe it correctly to the timing of the mop, this would give the illusion that the mop is mopping over the text.
For this idea i wanted to create an animated ident. this would involve me retrieving a virtual 3D sculpted plane with a blank background around it, then adding a blue sky to the back ground, after this i would keyframe the position of the plane to make the plane look like its flying and then keyframe the anchor point of the plane to spin around. i would then zoom into the windows of the plane which would reveal the company name.
this is the mind map for all of my ident ideas. in this mind map i briefly touch on various ideas and techniques for my ident, including genre, styles and visual effects.
this is the final idea. this ident would be created over a time lapse of people in a busy spot. the camera would be moving slowly to the right revealing a blank wall, slowly showing the production name. this idea would be fairly difficult to design as i would need time-lapse footage with something to add the text layer to which would make the text 3D.

Video Formats
Lossy: are file compression programs designed to eliminate certain files which ultimately reduce the size of the original file. this type of compression is commonly used to reduce the size of bitmap images. however when using this type of file compression you cannot get the file back to its original state. because of this you can't use this form of compression for anything that needs to be reproduced exactly, like software applications, databases and presidential.
Lossless: this form of file compression is almost entirely opposite to the lossy form. the lossless file compression basically rewrites the original data in a more efficient way. however in doing this you sacrifice no quality loss for having a larger file type. a file compressed with lossy could be one tenth of the original, while lossless is unlikely to produce a file smaller than half of the original size.
Short Film: film trailers are now available via virgin movies, the promo trailer for the new Sin City 2 (http://www.virginmedia.com/movies/trailers-clips/sin-city-2-a-dame-to-kill-for-trailer/3321745689001/?filter=trailers#!/sin-city-2-a-dame-to-kill-for-trailer/3321745689001) is available to watch on the virgin movies website. however the video is a flash file therefore there is no way to change the resolution. The video is displayed in a lossless flash video format and is displayed the same way on mobile devices 640p - 480p.
Games: mainstream games are now available to purchase online through Steam http://store.steampowered.com/app/243470/. the trailer for the game Watch Dogs is in a Flash video format displayed in a 640p - 480p resolution and 16:9 aspect ratio this can be downscaled so it can be viewed on mobile devices. the game itself on pc is displayed in lossless MP4. format allowing the viewer to watch the video in high quality.
Promo: this is the Promo for the FreeFly cinema company http://www.freeflycinema.com/freeflyReel.html this promo clip is displayed in a 16:9, 640p - 480p lossless MP4. format but you cannot change the resolution however you can view this on vimeo which allows the capability to view the clip in Full HD
MOV - a MOV file is simply a movie file. this file type is commonly used on apple Macintosh devices however anyone can view this file type if they have the Quicktime program.
MPG - is another file type used for movies, but more commonly used for transferring movies over the internet. it is a lossless file compression type. the MPG format is also given to many of the VCR videos that are converted to downloadable movies, e.g. if you had a VCR and converted it into a downloadable video you could convert it into an MPG format.
MP4 - (aka MPEG-4) this file format is yet another file used for compressing video, audio, graphics and text. this format also allows for advanced content such as user interactivity and 3D graphics. this format is also a common file type which is shared across the internet. it is also compressed in lossless making it popular to share across the internet because it maintains its quality.
AVI - (Audio video interleave) is Microsoft's version of the MOV file used by Apple, this format of movie file is less common than apples mov format because it is unreliable in terms of copying specific files over like MP3 files and various other vbr data.
WMV- is a compressed video format designed originally for use on the internet streaming applications. this format also caters for various other specific formats like WMV Screen and WMV Image. a new version of WMV(WMV 9) has the capability to support formats such as HD DVD and Blue-ray Disc. WMV 9 can now also be played on numerous media players like VLC, KMPlayer, MPlayer and with Flip4mac software you are able to play WMV files on Quicktime.
FLV- is a flash video format designed for adobe systems. FLV is the standard video forma used by nearly every video on the internet including you-tube google video and various other websites. however other websites like Apple iTunes and vimeo do not support flash video as they prefer the MP4 format because of its high quality support, this is the same for mobile devices as they do not support the adobe flash content.
SWF - (Small Web Format) is a file extension for a shockwave file format designed by macromedia and now owned by adobe. SWF can contain video, vector based animations, sound and are designed to be transferred across the internet. SWF can be viewed online using the flash player plug in.
3GP - is a file format which stores video streams as MPEG-4 files and also audio as AMR files. 3GP is a multimedia container format created by the third generation partnership project for 3G multi media services. it is used on 3G phones but can also be used on 2G and 4G phones.
ASF - is a file format designed for storing and playing video streams and transmitting the over the internet. this format supports scalable media such as video and audio. this format also allows you to stream multi channel audio or multiple bit rate video suitable for transferring over different bandwidths.
file sizes:
Resolution - is judged by pixels in an image, depending on how many pixels there are in an image you can have a blurry image or a crisp image by increasing or decreasing the amount of pixels in the image.
Data Rate - is the rate at which information is being transferred. it is expressed in the amount of information per unit of time e.g. a common form of data rate describing the speed of a hard drive is Megabytes/second. once you calculate the data rate at which your hard drive is transferring information you can the begin to work out how much space you will need for that file.
Frame Rate - the number of pictures taken per second by the camera determines the frame rate of the motion picture. Frame Rate describes both the speed of recording and the seed of playback eg. The more frames recorded per second, the more accurately motion is documented onto the recording medium.
Keyframe Rate - Keyframes are the markers in video production for animation which defines the start and finish point of the animation. in-between the start and finish of this you have all of the other keyframes which are virtual frames and are not recorded like a camera would do, so the computer makes them up from copying the frame rate at which your working at.
Aspect Ratio:
4:3 - was the common ratio used for TV, computer monitors and is still used by Apples iPad. aspect ratio is the term used for the hight and width of a screen in this case the screen would be 4 in hight and 3 in width making the screen a square shape.
16:9 - is now used more commonly throughout household TVs as this ratio provides a more widescreen view.

blurb
My name is Christian Dudmish, I like to think of myself as being good with a camera but i do also like the whole production process from directing, producing, editing, script writing etc. as you will see in my FMP, I've focused more on the visuals than anything else, this is purely because i feel that the visual entertainment in film is more vital and conveys the story across much better than anything else.

Codes and Conventions of a Thriller
obtrusive editing: quick cuts and obtrusive editing are used frequently in thriller films to accentuate the feelings of suspense and tension. they are used generally on an important or particularly "thrilling" scene, sometimes creating disorientation of space and time by using montage editing. my film will feature this particular convention in certain scenes, especially in the third scene where my story is being set up after the character development stage.I will not be revealing my antagonist in the scene this is to keep the enigma for longer. however when the action kicks in i will be using quick cuts and disorient editing as my protagonist is a little bit "high".
Flash Backs: flashbacks contribute to thrillers by pointing out to the audience that something has happened in the past to create the situation that the character is in now. flash backs are generally confusing to the audience as they are meant to disorientate them by taking them out of the reality of the film to reveal more of the plot. i have not incorporated flashbacks into my film purely because i don't feel that my character needed a past for the story that would help as i felt it would make it "cheesy".
Black and White: is another convention of thriller because it makes the shadows elucid which can often appear quite dark and eerie. for instance in Alfred Hitchcock's "Psycho" shower scene, the whole film is in black and white . however the shadow on the curtain creates a dark and eerie feel as if something bad is going to happen. again i have not used the black and white colour scheme as i would like to have colour, but i am going to create heavy emphasis on the saturation and shadows during the colour grading stage to give the film a more eerie feel.
Tension Music: music plays a big part in films as it can convey various emotions to which the audience will feel. in thrillers tense music is often used in edgy dialogue scenes or if a character is in a location alone, tension music can also be used for build ups or plot twists. i will be using tension music in my film in specific scenes to convey to the audience that they should be on the edge of their seats.
Montage Editing: montage editing is used frequently in film and can be used to display scales of time that has passed, also it could be used to portray certain non important events, for instance in "prisoners" Hugh Jackman kid-knaps a man and decides to build his own torture chamber during this long process a montage is played whilst he builds it and then Hugh jackman visiting the man.
Deceptive Mind Games: mind games are commonly used in thrillers, more so in psychological thrillers where serial killers, mad scientists and other villains play tricks on the protagonist disorientating them and shaking them of off the ultimate goal. i have used a type of mind game in one of my scenes where my protagonist is "high" on drugs and sees thing which are not real, so rather than the antagonist playing deceptive mind games, my protagonists own mind plays tricks on herself.

FMP Proposal
Overview:
The short film I will be producing is a psychological thriller. The film will have a female protagonist and the antagonist will be male, both character will have influences from various characters which I have researched through different films like The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, Dexter, Zodiac and Kill Bill. I aim to make the film look visually dark and de-saturated to fit the dark mood of the film. I also aim to create a dark mood through the sound, by using eerie music and atmospheric sounds in non-dialogue scenes.
Synopsis:
The film evolves around my protagonist Hannah who is not just your average lowlife druggie. On a bitterly cold morning Hannah walks to her normal pick up point to get her weekly fix, whilst waiting for the dealer Hannah witnesses an event which petrifies her. She then decides to take her troubles away by abusing drugs. After this still suffering from the side effects of the drugs Hannah finds herself in a park where she cant help feeling as if somebody is watching.
Blurb:
From nothing to everything, Hannah (protagonist) is a lowlife drug abuser, scraping her rent. But on a cold winter day, she is thrown into a life threatening ordeal after a body is tossed into a river. All she wanted was a fix...
Logistics: for this film I believe its vital for the shots to be planed exact for shooting on set as anyone who makes films would know that time is precious on set and planning ahead will not only make me more organised but it will give me more time to experiment with other shots.
Target Audience:
The audience that I have aimed to reach out to is people aged from 16 to 25, who like the thriller genre but also like other genres, for instance horror, dramas, horror thrillers and various other sub genres similar to these. I have aimed for these particular people because I fit into this target audience as well, so I have appealed to this audience by putting in what I like to see.

Sound Track planing
For my FMP I want to produce a soundtrack which will create an immersive atmosphere for the viewer.
In some scenes I will have silence but in the background there will be a faint room tone which I will record with a zoom microphone for about 30 seconds, this is critical as if the scene is just silent it could disorientate the audience. So just having a faint noise in the background will create the silent atmosphere.
In other scenes I want to create a tense feeling for when we see something bad happen, for this I am going to record the plectrum scraping the strings on my guitar for this I will feed the XLR lead from my guitar into my amp and from my amp to the zoom via XLR again, by recording the sound directly into the mic it allows me to manipulate the sound levels and possibly distort the sounds further in sound track pro.
For my intro and certain parts of the film I would like to create an actual soundtrack which would give my film an identity, consisting entirely instrumental elements. In doing this I can play this in various parts of the film also allowing me to change it slightly for different scenes telling the viewer to feel multiple emotions, whether that's happy, sad, aggressive etc.
On set for dialogue I will be recording sound with a zoom microphone with a wind protector, so the mic doesn't pick up any unnecessary noise which could wash out what the actors are saying.

Sound Track
Generally during the "producing sound" process the people you would have on hand to help decide what type of music, effects you would like would be the director, sound designer, foley artist and any artists or musicians you would like help to plan. primarily you would have the director there guiding people and telling everybody the sort of track he would like to hear, compared to if he wasn't there nobody would know what to do as they wouldn't know what the director wants without any sense of direction. likewise you would need the sound designer to work with the director discussing what he/she can do in terms of placing the sound in certain scenes and possibly playing with different mixes or play other similar tracks which could further guide everyone to deciding a soundtrack. you may also need the foley artist to help decide where and where not there should be foley sound in the scene, and also to discuss blending the foley with the soundtrack produced by the sound designer. if you would like a lyrical score also, musicians and artists can work with the sound designer to work on an idea for a song.
also during the sound production process, the director and sound designer will go through each scene and sound spot. this is where the director and sound team will devise a schedule which will organise what needs to be created or placed in each part of the scene.
once the sound has been produced and has been added to the scene the sound team will picture lock the scene, which means that the team can no longer edit the sound in the scene and the scene or shot has been locked and ready for the team who edits the whole film together.
when recording sound it doesn't always go to plan, so generally on set there is always a back up plan. for instance if you decide to shoot an important conversation in Liverpool street station the sound team will have to consider the amount of people there but also the echo as its a big station so maybe a boom mic would be appropriate for this particular scene however if this fails somehow, a back up mic like a shot gun mic could achieve similar results as it is directional meaning if you point it at the actor it will only pick up what they are saying, its also big enough to be placed on the end of a boom pole.
planning what type of sounds you would like in the shots are also important as you need to know how you are going to record these sounds. so if you want to have explosion sounds you will probably have to record them on sight in a safe area or use stock footage, whereas if you want to emphasise somebodies walk you may want to ask the foley artist to record some foot steps in the studio using a shot gun mic which allows sound to be picked up from multiple areas but is directional so if you are recording the footsteps with a crowd behind you the mic will pick up more of the actual footsteps because the mic is facing the other way. if you have recorded dialogue on top of a mountain where its very windy you may want to ask the sound designer to record the same dialogue in the studio to be dubbed over the top of the footage, this is called A.D.R (automated dialogue replacement), during the process of recording A.D.R the actor which was in the scene will watch the footage whilst following with the script, after the actor is familiar with the scene he/she will begin to rein act the dialogue and the sour designer will match the dialogue being recorded with the scene until both the the footage and the sound sync.

Film Crit Hulk - Character Tree
For this short essay I have decided to type in capitals because the person who invented this character tree types in capitals because he/she is imitating the fictional character Hulk.

Evaluation
The brief that we were assigned asked us to create a corporate promo video, in which we had to go out and find our own clients (that actually existed). the brief stated that we had to fully produce this video which meant we had to work through all production stages, pre-production : research into the company, sound planning and other necessary production planning like storyboards, script, location reports etc. production shooting the actual footage ready for the post-production stage in which we have to edit the video and do any important effects.
For this project we designed a brief for our client which they could tell us exactly what they want, the timescale that they want and any other specifics they want included. Our client was the manager of the Royal Hotel, the brief was quite tough due to the client being "laid back" and "easy going" about the brief as the client was quite indecisive about what she wanted which meant there really wasn't any negotiation process. our brief included a short schedule that mainly included the time and dates which we said we would have certain things completed by like the pre-production, shooting , and edited by. as a group we all stuck to the brief and completed the various details to the agreed times and dates. However we handed the video to our client late as i left the editing to late, although our client was fine with the lateness and satisfied with the video, we handed the video on a dvd as back-up and transferred the same video onto their pc via my usb.
I feel that the communication between my group and the client was good as we met in person once a week discussing any changes, new developments or issues, we did this mainly for quick response feedback so if they had any problems we could fix them and update them the following week. This worked well as we didn't really have any issues but our client preferred to hear any issues and discuss anything else they want in person.
In conclusion this was an interesting and insightful project as we experienced working with a real client and having to work to deadlines. This meant we had to have a good relationship and communication with our client which we did. Due to having a real client I felt this project more stressful compared to my own projects as we worked to an agreement through the brief, which meant if I wanted to change anything I would have to make sure the client was ok with it first.

ideas for FMP (Final Major Project)
the first idea I thought of was in class. it would be a psychological thriller / drama. the plot is about four siblings who have killed their parents for their wealth, the siblings are very well off. the siblings are now in their late teens and are still living off of their parents when one day the parents tell the siblings that they will not be able to support them anymore, so the siblings are very distraught about this and plot a plan to kill their parents and take hold of their inheritance.
My second idea is a science fiction thriller, my main protagonist is stuck on a deserted planet for an unknown reason and must venture through a maze of petrified people that will not tell him anything due to the people in charge are monitoring him, after this a strange old woman whispers in his ear which reveals there is a bigger picture...
My third idea is a horror, a serial killer who we root for bites more than he can chew when his routine is messed up when a much bigger opponent is immune to the drug our serial killer uses on his victims to send them into a harmless sleep ready for the knife and table.
My fourth idea is another horror but with a sic-fi sub genre, your average nerdy teenager bullied at school, at the bottom of the popularity chain etc. is threatened by the bully that he will kill his parents whilst they sleep, so taking a chemical injection hoping that it is some sort of steroid to make him stronger the boys eyes turn to black and his entire body turns into a very pale colour almost white, his brain is erratically startled into a creature of the night and the boy hints down this bully who made the threat.
My final idea is a psychological drama, my protagonist Hannah (protagonist) is a lowlife drug abuser, scraping her rent. But on a cold winter day she is thrown into a life threatening ordeal after a body is tossed into a river. This is the idea I used due to the realism of it as it is alot more affordable and simpler for me to shoot as most shots do not require heavy visual effects

Going Viral - Case Study
Netflix: Short films are accessible now through media such as Netflix, the trailer for the award winning show "Breaking Bad" available for free with Netflix's free one month trial, the trailer was also internationally broadcast on HBO. all of the TV shows and films on Netflix were originally streamed in WMV3 and WMA but now Netflix utilises Microsofts SilverLight technology and stream their movies and shows in Vc-1 advanced profile encoding with play ready DRM (Digital Rights Management). the movies and shows can be viewed in full HD 1920p -1080p however they can also be viewed in standard definition 640p-480p.
DVD: DVD's are a popular way to buy and watch films at home. the vast majority of DVD's use the VOB format and are viewed at 720p-480p
DIVX: is a company which helps their consumers convert any file format to any device or platform. Divx also create distribute and license digital video technologies for home and on the go entertainment systems. with Divx Plus streaming, you can view videos at
2D Elements - in almost every advert ever made there are 2D elements which can be used to animate certain points in adverts. the advert i chose to illustrate my point is the 2014 Comedy Central advert (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=acvqcjf_EWc ). At the very start of this advert there are three 2D elements the Background, Roast chicken and a little square, at first the little box is placed next to the chicken, the 2D box then is personified and jumps into the air and takes a "bite" out of the chicken this is simply done by using the position and rotation keyframes two animate both 2D elements. The chicken is also probably a PSD file which would allow the visual effects artist to rub out or cut a bite shape out of the chicken and then send back to After effects to finish the Bite effect by cutting the full chicken and replacing it with the bitten chicken. the rest of the advert is cutting an adding different layers and a montage of the Anger Management show, and at the end before the slow-mo explosion there is a mini animation which makes the whole advert feel like a continuous animation, at the end of the montage a little box which is really a mask of a huge box is positioned key-framed onto the screen and then is stretched within a rough five Keyframe space by pulling the top of the mask to the top of the screen which makes the viewer think that the little box is dragging the background layer down onto the screen.
3D - Elements - 3D elements are becoming more popular in modern adverts for instance in the promo video for HTC's One Max (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ULZ0Ar64tw) the majority of the video uses 3D Elements. at the start of the video there are many shots of the Phone rotating and the camera following a curve on the phone, this is done by compositing many different layers created in Photoshop and then sent to after effects, put together and rotated using position and rotation Keyframes, the visual effects artist would have also created a virtual 3D camera which would analyse and scan the image so the camera would be able to pan around the image and use all of the other functions that a real camera would have.
Mattes - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TaVFCdwT0hk this is the 2004 iPod advert, the advert is internationally popular as the video is silhouettes of people dancing. however this effect was not achieved on set, this effect was achieved in the post-production stages. they would have filmed normally on a green screen with track points positioned in specific places so that the visual effects artists would know exactly where the actor is moving so when they add a background the actor will not blend or move behind it, in after effects there is a technique called masking, this is where you cut out a back ground or a thing from the image and you can either substitute it for another image or you can leave it with it just being the background colour which is what apple did for the iPod advert.
Alpha Channels - RGB(Red, Green, Blue) channels are used in every piece of visual media as these are the basic principals of colour in making films. however sometimes certain projects use RGBA which is the Red, Green, Blue and Alpha, Alpha is the fourth Channel of the RGBA and is primarily used to communicate the transparency information through to the image. for instance usually in videos black backgrounds or logos etc are the transparency channel conveyed by the background colour open in the project at the time as there isn't a layer to fill that blank space.
Key-Frames - key-frames are the barebones of any type of animation being that an effect, animated characters etc. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S2nBBMbjS8w this is the 2012 advert for Coca-Cola which is completely animated. to achieve this animated advert the animators would have used hundreds of keyframes which will be attached to various functions which again are attached to different body parts, facial muscles and multiple other moving bits. commonly the keyframes are linked to functions like position, scale, anchor point, rotation, opacity etc.
Layers: - In any form of media there are layers, layers are the elements which combine and create the finished product. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LsJiGF_Groo in this advert there are many layers that are merged together from the actual footage, visual effects, colour grading. On any editing software for any project there will be a tab which will have multiple layers consisting of various file types, generally each layer will be visually significant and should be able to be toggled on and off which allows you to see the product without that specific layer allowing you to correct, change or add to the project.
DVD: DVD's are a popular way to buy and watch films at home. the vast majority of DVD's use the VOB format and are viewed at 720p-480p

Current Client Brief
After the business went under new management we decided to go back and create a new brief, we brought the other brief with us to let the new manager check the already arranged details of the video, our client then agreed to all of the details on the previous brief.
Genderist? - Film Theory
From the origin of film making women have been conveyed as being stupid, always 2nd, eye candy etc. in todays session we were taught the feminist or genderist film theory.
Laura Mulvey:
Laura Mulvey is a film theorist who is well known for her Essay "Visual Pleasure and Narrative Cinema" (also known as Visual and other pleasures) written in 1973, in the essay she expresses her thoughts and research of the Male Gaze which in her words means "bearer of the look".
Naomi Wolf :
Naomi Wolf is an American author who is best known for her book "The Beauty Myth" written in 1991, Wolf gained popularity as spokesperson of third wave feminism. in the book Wolf argues that beauty as a normative value is entirely socially constructed.

After Effects and Photoshop
This is the link to the clip i produced on Adobe After Effects.
to create this clip i worked in the motion tracking workspace which allowed me to first motion track the foreground and the background, by selecting the rotation button in the motion tracking tab i was able to use to points to help track the shot. in the process of this clip we tracked the raw clip twice, i was able to do this by creating a Null object which allows the data captured from the track to be stored in the Null object, this further allows you to create another two point track in which i tracked the background.
once i tracked the raw footage i opened Adobe Photoshop to duplicate the image three times and arrange them into different sizes, after this i used the clone stamp tool to add more grass around the castle, i then feathered the grass around the castle which is using a rubber at a big size and very low opacity so you blend the grass into the scene. i then used the RGB and curves colour tools to further help blend the image together. i then sent the image back to after effects and put the image i had just worked on over the top of the footage to make it look like the guy who is walking up the hill has discovered three old castles.

Corporate Promo Summary
The first task on the corporate assignment brief is called Research and planning, the brief asks us to research what we are doing before planning so this means researching the different codes and conventions of adverts/ promotional videos similar to the video our client wants us to make, we also have to research the legal issues of making a promotional video like rights to certain songs that the client wants, if there's certain brands of other companies etc.. we have to research other briefs which are in the film/TV industry, looking at aspect of the negotiation process, opportunities and the structure of the briefs.
The other part to this task is playing the video ,the task asks us to go out and find real clients to work for.
The planning part should also consist of meetings with or with out the client although making sure we still stay in contact with the client, and adding to our blog with pre-production.
The next part of the task asks us to physically shoot the planned footage for the video with our shooting schedule, shot list, script (if needed),
And finally we should evaluate all aspects of the assignment critically analysing the steps that we have been through and show we can elucidate what a corporate promo video is.

Psychoanalytic Theory
task
The object I have chosen to represent fear in the terms of psychoanalytic theory is an overall happy father.
The location to represent fear could be a empty house
Both my object and my location could work in a screenplay well, as I think an empty house could provoke fear with just the one man who was a father going about his normal business as if there are other family members in the house. However the other family members have been dead for over 10 years now after the father, a local town businessman slaughtered his family. All of the furniture is covered up with thick plastic sheets, amongst this an estate agent is trying to get the man to sell his house as another family want to move in and have seen that only the one man lives there
Film theorists
Sigmund Freud
Sigmund Freud is the founding theory of psychoanalysis. Freud argued that the human mind is partitioned in three parts. The Ego, Super-Ego and Id. The Ego is the most screwed on, sensible and organised part of the mind which has to make sense of the other two. Freud also talked about "the uncanny", "that which reminds us of something from our childhood , long repressed, which now returns in an unfamiliar form", "something can be familiar, yet foreign at the same time resulting in a feeling of it being uncomfortably strange or uncomfortably familiar"
Jacques Lacan
Jacques is very influenced by Sigmund Freud's work and talks about "mirror phase" which is were children aged from two to three years old Realise that they are not attached to their mother and that they are their own person. Lacan means that we go through life trying to reconnect with the "real" self and sense of fullness that we experienced as children. He also says that we seek the "objet petit a"(the person or thing that will complete us) although it doesn't actually exist.
Research - Company
During my research process for the business my client runs, I came across their website amongst other review and information websites.
This is a screenshot of their front page.
This is a screenshot of their front page.
on the front page you can find a description about the business and various other things describing what the Royal Hotel has to offer. The front page also displays the Royal Hotels contact details .
This was the only main information that we could however, because the other tabs do not function.
As well as researching on the internet our client also gave us a tour of the building, showing us the basement in which the hotel hosts the night club, the pub area, the restaurant area and various
Sound
The reason we didn't choose to use any other sound apart from music in the video is because our client wanted a visual promotional video in which potential customers that view the video will be more likely to come. We discussed other uses for sound other than music with our client like interviews with staff and with the customers. however our client was reluctant to give up their idea for the video so we stuck with music and no other sound.
Genre
In today's session we discussed the genre film theory and different peoples views and opinions on the for or against Genre. First we were asked to write down the iconography of a western movie, we were then asked to create a poster which had no relevance to any type of genre and let the class try and guess what genre type it would fit in . for our poster we wanted to be as vague as possible by having just the eye. for this 20 minute task I just grabbed an image off of google images and played around with the text and colourisation tools, like curves, RGB and various other tools.
later we were asked to choose from two quotes one being for genre and one against. I decided to go for genre, as i feel that we as a race have to categorise everything, we always form queues we have to order things in a certain way and if we lived in a world without genre not only would it cause a massive headache for everybody but we will find a different way of defining a film i.e the person who directed it and other people that contributed, what type of equipment was used, actors etc. genre is a way for us to look at films in a linear way and depict a target audience for specific genres.
